The power of Beets!

If it was all work and no play then life would be a tad boring, right?! So yes, this is prosecco. HOWEVER, it is mixed with some incredibly nutritious, freshly juiced beetroot. I absolutely love beets and use them a lot when juicing because they lend a sweetness to any greens, as well as providing a wealth of health benefits. This is due to the fact they contain a compound called Betaine which protects cells from environmental stress, thereby fighting inflammation, believed to be the source of a number of human diseases including heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and cancer. These compounds have also been found to support the detoxification process in the liver. When juicing, a top tip is to ensure you also include the green leafy part as this contains even more iron than spinach! To help get you going, here is one of my favourite Beetroot based juices…


Beetroot detox juice recipe



Serves 1

  • 1 x beetroot
  • 1 x apple
  • 2 x sticks of celery
  • 2 x cups of kale
  • 1 inch of fresh ginger
  • 1/2 inch of fresh turmeric



  1. Wash all your produce and peel away the outer layer of dirt from the beetroot. Also ensure you have given both the ginger & turmeric a good scrub. If the skin is really dirty you can always peel. I like to include the leaves of both the beet and the celery so don’t through these away.
  2. Stir well, add ice cubes if desired and enjoy!
